Why Do I Need an Oil Change?

An oil change ensures that you have fresh and clean oil running throughout your engine. There are many reasons for getting an oil change, all of which preserve the life of your engine. Thermal breakdown can reduce the lubricant properties of your oil and cause your engine internals to rub against one another. Acid neutralizing additives will also become used up and lose effectiveness. Lastly, oil changes are important because they replace old oil that has absorbed water, dirt or other contaminants within your engine.

Oil Change Types

At Forest Lake Chrysler Dodge Jeep & Ram, we offer several different types of oil changes to ensure that your vehicle gets the oil it needs and the appropriate filter to stay clean. We do it right and we do it affordably for all makes and models. We offer conventional oil changes, synthetic blend oil changes, full synthetic oil changes and various diesel oil changes. All of our oil changes come with a free car wash if weather or circumstances permit. Check out the different types of oil changes we offer for your vehicle.

Conventional Oil

Conventional oil uses base oils that are enhanced during the blending process by adding chemical additives. Conventional oil ranges dramatically in quality, but we offer only the best. Conventional oils are typically recommended for use in vehicles with lower miles and for drivers whose driving habits are calm and relaxed.

Synthetic Blend Oil

Synthetic blend oils use a combination of conventional and synthetic oils to provide a happy medium between conventional oil and synthetic oil. Synthetic blend oils are a step up over conventional oils. Synthetic blend oils are recommended for cars, trucks, vans and SUVs that operate more intensely than normal commuting.
Cleansing and Protection

Full Synthetic Oil

Full synthetic oil is a laboratory-made oil that is carefully crafted by engineers and chemists. Fully synthetic oils typically last longer than conventional oils and blends, provide better lubrication, better protection of your engine and a longer life. Synthetic oils are recommended for vehicles that go through intense use.

Got a Diesel?

If you’ve got a vehicle with a diesel engine, we can take care of your diesel oil change without issue. We do diesel oil changes all the time. Your diesel oil change may cost more than traditional gasoline oil changes due to an increased fuel capacity of your diesel engine. Whether you’ve got a Heavy Duty Chevrolet, Ram, or Ford, we’ve got you covered. See our service department for more information on getting an oil change for your diesel.

How Often Should I get an Oil Change?

Deciding how often you should get an oil change is a topic in hot debate. The answer however, is really simple. Do whatever your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual states. If you need help finding that, we can help you. The manufacturers really know the best mileages and months for getting your oil change. For some, you may need to change as often as every 3 months or 3,000 miles. For others, every 10,000 miles or more. It really comes down to the types of oils you’re using and the requirements of your vehicle. Typically, most cars should get an oil change every 6 months or 5,000 miles. To find out how often your vehicle needs an oil change, check your Owner’s Manual or stop by our dealership in Forest Lake, MN.
