Jeep is bringing back the Grand Wagoneer! The luxury SUV will top $100,000 for a fully-loaded model. It comes with a plug-in hybrid electric powertrain, and tons of new designs and technologies. It also includes many modern design features that pay tribute to the Wagoneer heritage. The 2021 Grand Wagoneer will be available sometime next year.
The concept vehicle has three rows of seating, with room for up to seven passengers. Jeep says it will have Best-In-Class passenger volume. The interior includes premium-wrapped materials, with leather and wood accents on the doors, dash, and center control panel. There are four touchscreen displays, including a first-ever 10.25-inch passenger display.
Backseat passengers will enjoy a rear entertainment system with three 10-inch screens. All of the screens are powered by Jeep’s latest Uconnect infotainment system. It gives you direct access to many connectivity, entertainment, navigation and communication features. The SUV also comes with a 23-speaker McIntosh audio system.
Ralph Gilles, the head of design at Fiat Chrysler, said: “A full digital cockpit takes advantage of leading technologies that are beautifully presented with expansive and easy-to-use screens and limited buttons, allowing the focus to be placed on a pleasant and intuitive experience for the driver and passengers.”
The full-length glass roof has a map of Detroit and the surrounding area. That’s where the Grand Wagoneer will be manufactured. The SUV’s exterior has large windows, just like the original Grand Wagoneer. It also includes the traditional seven-slotted grille with lights in between the slots and headlight-to-headlight light bar, plus 24-inch wheels.
The 2021 Grand Wagoneer comes with an exclusive Selec-Terrain Traction Management System with five drive modes, a Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system with active two-speed transfer case, and Quadra-Lift Air suspension. Those are paired with state-of-the-art camera technology and advanced safety features, so you’ll have great control on the road.
Jeep is also releasing a new classic Wagoneer model. It starts at $60,000. Christian Meunier, the global president of Jeep, said: “It’s clearly the return of a premium American icon. Wagoneer will expand to become a portfolio of vehicles that will redefine American premium while delivering a unique customer experience.”
Meunier said the new Wagoneer models will have a lot of similarities, but the Grand Wagoneer will be “the top of the top.” He also said many of its elements will be used in other new Jeep models. Jim Morrison, the head of Jeep in North America, said both models will have just as much capability as the rest of the Jeep line-up.
The first Wagoneer came out in 1963, and the Grand Wagoneer followed in 1984. They had more luxury, capability, and standard features than other vehicles on the market at the time. The Grand Cherokee carried on the legacy of the Grand Wagoneer. The new Wagoneer will also be available sometime next year.
Jeep is also releasing a plug-in hybrid version of the Wrangler. The 2021 Wrangler 4xe will have two electric motors and a gas engine. It’s capable of almost 400 miles on a single charge with a full tank of gas, and it has up to 25 miles of pure-electric driving range. The Wrangler 4xe will be available later this year.
