Dodge and Ram are leading J.D. Power’s 2020 APEAL Awards! Dodge ranked first and Ram came in second among mass market brands. The Dodge Challenger and Ram 1500 picked up model-level segment awards. The Dodge Durango and Charger and the Chrysler Pacifica also finished in the top three in their class.

2020 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack

The Dodge Challenger came in first in the Midsize Sporty class, and the Ram 1500 won the Large Light Duty Pickup class. The Dodge Charger finished second in the Large Car class, and the Dodge Durango came in third in the Upper Midsize SUV class. The Chrysler Pacifica finished second in the Minivan class.

The awards are based on J.D. Power’s 2020 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. For the study, the company measured new vehicle owners’ experiences with 2020 model-year cars in the first 90 days that they owned them. J.D. Power focused on over 30 vehicle and brand attributes, including design, performance, comfort, and safety.

2020 Ram 1500 White

The company scored the attributes on a 1,000-point scale. The APEAL Awards are broken up into two groups, luxury and mass market, based on those scores. Dodge topped the larger mass market group with 872 points, and Ram was second with 871 points.

Dave Sargeant, the vice president of automotive quality for J.D. Power, said: “The APEAL Study measures an owner’s emotional attachment to their new vehicle and in what areas the vehicle may not be delivering on all of the positive experiences that were hoped for. Understanding this is just as valuable to automakers as knowing about quality issues and owner acceptance of new technologies.”

Dodge also finished first in the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS). That study examines the problems owners have with their new vehicles in the first 90 days that they own them. It measures components that fail and features that are hard to understand, difficult to use, or don’t work the way owners want.

Dodge tied with Kia for highest in overall quality in the 2020 IQS. That means its vehicle components are easy to understand and use, and work the way owners want. Dodge is the first domestic brand in the study’s history to rank highest. It’s also the first American brand to take top honors in both the APEAL and IQS awards.

2020 Dodge Grand Caravan Silver

Dodge and Ram are trusted automakers with vehicles that are built to last. Every Dodge and Ram model has impressive power and capability, great style, and tons of high-tech features. Dodge’s 2020 line-up includes the Charger, Challenger, Durango, Journey, and Grand Caravan. Ram’s 2020 line-up features the 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500, and 3500.

Sargent said: “The Initial Quality Study is the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality and, year after year, automakers apply the insights they learn from consumers to make positive changes. The higher problem levels we see in this year’s study don’t mean vehicle quality has worsened; rather, the redesigned study asks additional questions that allow owners to cite more of the problems that they are experiencing.
