Why the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is Actually Faster Than The Dodge Demon

Holly Battle Jeeps, New Vehicles, News

There has been so much hype about the new 2018 Dodge Demon with its beastly 840 horsepower. People have even been calling it the world’s fastest production car. And while that may be true for the “car” category, many might be surprised to find out that it could actually take second place to a faster SUV. The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk may have less horsepower than the Demon at 707, but it can actually beat it in speed.

So what is the meaning to all of this madness? Well first of all, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and the 2018 Dodge Demon actually share the same engine; a 6.2L V8. The Trackhawk will get you 645 lb-ft of torque while the demon has 770. Looking at just these numbers alone, one might assume that the Demon would certainly win a race with the Trackhawk every time, however there is always more at play than just raw power.

2018 Dodge Demon

The 2018 Dodge Demon is designed to slay all competitors in a quarter mile race, which means it needs the maximum amount of longitudinal grip possible. Because of this, it ended up with tires that are rated at a max speed of 168, and therefore Dodge elecronically limited it to that number. Basically the Demon sacrificed top speed for more power at launch. And it has an insane 0-60 time of just 2.3 seconds, which absolutely beats the Trackhawk’s 3.5 second 0-60 time.

So the Demon will always murder the Grand Cherokee on a short track. Where the Trackhawk takes the lead is top speed. While the Demon is electronically limited to 168 mph, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will eventually overtake the Demon with its 190 mph top speed, it will just take longer to reach it. The Trackhawk has high speed rated performance rubber tires that allow it to claim those higher top speeds.

Now it is worth noting that the 707 horsepower Hellcat Widebody can actually reach 190 mph, which means that if you threw some different tires and removed the electronic speed limited on the Demon, you could theoretically top out at around 200 mph. And while you’re at it, throw some wings on it too because you might as well take flight if you’re going that fast. That would work… right?
