What could be more American than a Jeep? Well, according to Cars.com, nothing! Jeep has earned the top spot on Cars.com’s “American-Made Index” once again. Last year it was the Jeep Wrangler this year it’s the 2018 Jeep Cherokee that came in at number one. So what makes the Cherokee so American?
The Cars.com American Made Index takes into account many different factors to determine their list, but they have one fundamental requirement: final assembly of the vehicle must occur in the U.S. The 2018 Jeep Cherokee in manufactured in Belvidere, Illinois.
On top of assembly location, other determining factors include; domestic-parts content, U.S. factory employment, engine sourcing, and transmission sourcing.
The 2018 Jeep Cherokee has a high domestic-parts content of 72 percent. All engine and transmissions are from the U.S. which includes its 3.2L V6 24-valve VVT engine, its 2.0L I4 DOHC DI Turbo Engine, and its 9-speed automatic transmission. The Cherokee beat more than 100 U.S.-built vehicles to make the number one spot.
