2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon: The Widebody Hellcat

Nick Shotts Cars, Forest Lake, New Vehicles, News, Video

When Dodge recently revealed the 707 horsepower Challenger and Charger Hellcat siblings, the automotive world was intoxicated over their absurd power figures. With over 700 horsepower and a starting price under $65,000, it’s no surprise that the Hellcat was a tremendous success. Fortunately, for all of you (probably insane) people out there that lusted after or bought the Hellcat, Dodge has been slowly revealing the even crazier 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

Dodge has been very hush hush about their upcoming Challenger SRT Demon. There aren’t very many details out, but Dodge has been slowly revealing teaser videos about the new model that hint at what’s to come.

After their first video, shown above, automotive journalists have been circulating the idea that the new Demon may be able to operate on a higher octane race fuel. You’ll notice that the Hellcat-like creature drinks from a race-fuel container and turns into a demon. Dodge has also dropped subtle hints by mentioning for fans to check out their “high-octane videos”. Are they hinting at something, or is it just coincidence? Utilizing a higher octane fuel would allow them to tune the engine for even more power.

The second video is a bit more lax. It clearly hints that the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will have trimmed up. Lighter weight allows for quicker acceleration; both forwards and laterally. Dodge has revealed in a statement that the Dodge Demon weighs in 200 pounds lighter than the Hellcat.

The wide body (widebody) of the Challenger Demon allows Dodge’s engineers to fit wider wheels and tires on the vehicle. The current Hellcat is equipped with 275 mm wide tires – quite narrow for a car with 707 tire-shredding horsepower. The current Hellcat’s tires make for an excellent hooligan’s car. The Demon seems like it’s being designed for track times and brutality.
