If you’re looking for the perfect place to put your off-roader to the test in Texas, look no further than the Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area! Barnwell Mountain has 27 miles of off-road trails, known as Texas’ most extreme off-roading site. It boasts trails for all levels of difficulty, designed to test a vehicle to the limits. Full of mud pits, steep rocky trails, shocking inclines, and water puddles several inches deep, this trail is full of twisty surprises and tests. And for an SUV so modern and luxurious on the inside, the all-new 2017 Jeep Compass isn’t at all afraid to get down and dirty.
The 2017 Jeep Compass is a great daily commuter, but this Trailhawk trim also ready to take on tough trails like Barnwell Mountain. Those steep inclines at the park were no problem with the Compass’ 30-degree approach angle, 24-degree breakover angle and 34-degree departure angle. The Trailhawk trim also puts off-road suspension on the Compass, as well as Hill Descent Control and a 20:1 crawl ratio. The Jeep Active Drive Low 4×4 System comes standard on the Trailhawk, which gives you all those off-road necessities and the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System. It also has Rain Brake Support in addition to the anti-lock 4-wheel disc brakes. Every 2017 Jeep Compass comes standard with all-speed traction control, electronic roll mitigation and stability control, and Hill Start Assist.
The 2017 Jeep Compass Trailhawk really has earned its “Trail Rated” badge, as Barnwell Mountain tested. Plus, the 2017 model is all-new — it’s not the Compass you test-drove and got bored with a few years ago. It’s newly designed as one of the most versatile vehicles on the market. It offers economy, comfort, modern convenience, and of course the classic Jeep utility. While it doesn’t look like the vehicles that stormed Europe in the 40s, it can keep up over all kinds of terrain. The Selec-Terrain Traction Control System lets you choose Snow, Sand, Mud, or Rock modes for the best operation across many surface types.
The trails at Barnwell tested the Compass Trailhawk’s ability to clamber up and down steep, rocky slopes, and navigate tight, winding trails. As part of its off-road/on-road versatility, you can raise and lower the Compass’s ground clearance. It has a more sophisticated profile that before, but the Trailhawk still has underbody skid plates, bold red tow hooks, and Best-in-Class approach and departure angles. In the end, this Jeep may look a little more refined than the classic, but get it out there in the mud and it proves just how much of a Jeep it is.
