Ever since its official announcement at the 2017 SEMA Show, Jeep has released more pictures and details on the highly-anticipated 2018 Jeep Wrangler! New close-up interior shots give fans a good look at what to expect from the driver’s seat. It also makes it easy to compare this all-new model to the outgoing JK Wrangler. The new model looks like it’s a step up from last year’s model, but it still retains the Wrangler ruggedness that fans expect.
The new interior setup manages to look simple instead of busy, and modernized without being too urban. This interior expects to see more than a few splashes of water and mud, so it has to be modern and functional as well as water-resistant. The steering wheel is new, as is the infotainment screen. It looks brighter and more upscale with the colorful trim on the dash and silver accents around the wheel and switches. The six-speed transmission shifter and the transfer case shifter both appear to have smaller shift boots than the outgoing model, as well.
We can also see some details of how the controls and features may work on production models. For example, dual-zone climate controls are visible, and the headlight switch appears to be on the dash instead of the stalk. The circular HVAC vents look the same as the JK model, and the window switches also remain on the center rack instead of the door handles. Part of the center stack is labeled “media,” and could be covering the USB ports that the JK model didn’t have. It also has a new LCD screen in the center of the gauge cluster, replacing the outgoing 14-segment displays.
You can also see what looks like a rocker switch for the front and rear lockers, which would help a driver with maneuvering in tight spots. It also looks like there’s a separate “off” switch that will disengage both lockers. There’s also a small button to disconnect the sway bar for maximum articulation. This is a different setup from the JK Wrangler, in which you have to push the locker button multiple times to select the engagement you wanted. The new 2018 Jeep Wrangler seems to feature a more intuitive system. There are also four auxiliary switches, which could be for plug-and-play accessories like winches and light bars. The pictured model has the badging of a top-of-the-line Rubicon, so stay tuned for official news of more trims, options, and pictures as they come out!
