With an icon like the Jeep Wrangler, every update and redesign has to happen without compromising its Jeep-ness. The highly anticipated 2018 Jeep Wrangler is finally out and about in the world, showing off at auto shows and off-roading parks alike. Autoblog took the new Wrangler out to Saguaro National Park to test out this new model and see if it lives up to its badge!
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler proved that it has everything it takes to take on any adventure. This Jeep outdoes its predecessor in every way you could ask for. It still has that off-road spirit and go-anywhere purpose, and Jeep has improved on several areas for this new model. With a range of powertrain options, improved efficiency, and some added technology and safety features, the new Wrangler will appeal to old fans just as much as new buyers.
Jeep only made a few modifications to the Wrangler’s iconic silhouette. The grille slats and windshield are canted a little bit further back than before, for better aerodynamics and efficiency. Crucially, the external hood and door latches still let you take the roof and doors off the Wrangler. The new Wrangler is made of some lighter materials to save on fuel economy, including aluminum doors. The doors also have molded-in grab handles so you can grip and carry them without fear of dropping them. Additionally, the new system of folding the windshield and retracting the roof only takes about five minutes with the 2018 Jeep Wrangler!
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler took on the Arizona mountains with ease and fun thanks to its angles and ratios, which are engineered to give the new Jeep even more capability than the outgoing Wrangler. The Wrangler’s skid plates did a great job protecting all of its delicates during Autoblog’s test run, too! Sometimes you just want the sheer joy of running roughshod over some boulders in the mountains, and the new Jeep Wrangler is here for you. Its turbocharged power and electronic stability control system keep you pushing forward over rough terrain, so you can just have fun.
When you have to head home, the new Wrangler also behaves very well on the highways and around town. A few smoothed-out corners and the lighter materials improve your fuel efficiency, and the 2018 Jeep Wrangler also has some modern technological perks. You can turn your infotainment off to enjoy the rugged outdoors, but in town you’ll definitely enjoy the large, clear touchscreen. Safety features like a backup camera now come standard on every Wrangler model. You can also connect your smartphones and navigation to your new Jeep to make cruising down the highway even better. This 2018 model is everything you’ve loved about Wranglers in the past, with improvements to bring it into the modern age.
